Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior official said the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
